After many long months counting down the days the time finally arrived for us to head off on our trip to Dubai, Iran, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia.
>
> We spent much of the weekend getting prepared, packing bags and finalising loose ends, we dropped Mac off at the cattery and then were all systems go, off on the train to the Airport.
>
> At the airport we had our obligatory cider and PJs before heading in through customs to board the flight. We grabbed some dinner at Movida and before you knew it, it was time to board.
>
> It had been a long time since we flew Emirates and once we took out seats I do have to say it seemed quite spacious.
>
> It's a 14hr flight to Dubai and my journey was filled with 3 movies, The Greatest Showman, Wonder and I, Tonya. I enjoyed all three and was in tears over both of the first 2!
>
> Pete slept a fair bit and I tried to as well and next thing you knew we were getting ready to eat breakfast on the plane before coming in to land!
>
> The flight was super smooth, and A380 and the landing was also smooth as!! Could not have had a better flight!
>
> Dubai airport is fairly big, there is a train connection between the terminals. We found our way easily and our bags were waiting for us at baggage reclaim.
>
> We caught the metro to the hotel, around 50 minutes as we are staying at the other end of Dubai.
>
> It was not too hot outside and we found our hotel relatively easily, we could not check in but were able to use the showers at the pool so we could head out feeling a bit fresher.
>
> It was actually a bit humid and drizzly which we were not expecting so we headed over to the mall of the Emirates for a look around and grabbed a coffee to wake ourselves up.
>
> We were both feeling a bit delirious so decided we also better get some water but this caused us an issue as we only had a 100 Dirham note and no one would change it! Feeling a little tired and emotional, we finally found a supermarket where we got some water, ahhhh!!!!!
>
> Finally we were able to check into the hotel, by this time it was 11am, given we had arrived at 5am, it had been a very long morning. The room is quite nice with a very comfy bed, looking forward to sleep tonight.
>
> This afternoon we took the metro down to the Marina area where we grabbed some lunch, a cheeky burger! The Marina area is quite nice but still heavily under construction, it's hard not to feel like it's all so artificial, which it is, but it's almost too Disneyland like, quite weird.
>
> The heat of the day has got to us, so we've come back to the room to chill out a bit, trying to avoid my eyes closing so I don't go to sleep!!
>
> We will head out in a bit to see if we can find somewhere for a few bevvies!!
>
> Looking forward to more exploring on day 2!
>
> Ciao for now :-)
