Baku airport is quite impressive very new and modern, easy to navigate. We went through customs without an issue and then onto bag collection, changed some money and headed for the airport bus.
We literally had 5 mins before the bus left but had to buy a Baki Card (like a Myki) and of course the machine would not accept my notes.
Along cake a very "helpful" police officer who tried to help me buy our tickets, he so said it was because my note was too big so he grabbed my 20 and raced inside to change it. He then came back, helped me buy the ticket and then gave me my change.
Being a stickler for money being correct I checked what he gave me back but he only gave me change for a 10. I questioned him and he said no, that is correct. I said no it is not, I gave you a 20. He handed me a few more 1 Manat notes but I was still 4 short, which is about $3.
At first I was going to let it slide, he walked off and went over to another officer. I recounted the money and said to Pete, you know what, he had my money and it's wrong of him to steal money from me, yes he helped me, but he is a police officer, it's his job to help people, not steal money. So I headed back over and again said he owed me 4 Manat. Straight away he gave it to me!! I felt so pleased that I stood my ground! And what a bad first impression of Azerbaijan he is giving to tourists!!
Anyway, we did not let that ruin our day, I figured it was a lesson that we had better put our guard up here! After being in Iran for 12 days I had probably let it go down, but here, we need to be careful!
We arrived at our hotel after catching the bus and the metro, the hotel is lovely and the staff could not be nicer!! We even had a little sign on the bed welcoming us!
